Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, refused to forward her party’s articles of impeachment to the Senate until the Senate tells the Democratic Party what the trial will look like:
When we see the process that is set forth in the Senate, then we’ll know the number of managers that we may have to go forward and who we will choose.Nancy Pelosi, Democrat Speaker of the United States House of Representatives
Pelosi further suggested that the Democratic Party’s alleged charges against Republican President Donald Trump may not even make it to the Senate:
We will make our decision as to when we’re going to send it when we see what they’re doing on the Senate side.Nancy Pelosi’s response to a question about whether it is possible that the Democrat-controlled House may never send the Democratic Party’s articles of impeachment to the Senate.
When asked whether Nancy Pelosi could guarantee that articles of impeachment would actually be sent at all, Pelosi responded:
That would have been our intention, but we’ll see what happens over there.
Evidently, Pelosi — on behalf of her own party — is hypocritically trying to acquire a favor or advantage in the Senate that would ensure President Trump’s impeachment (i.e., quid pro quo). Pelosi has already implored Chuck Schumer, the Senate’s democratic minority leader, for help in achieving their party’s goals.
Simultaneously, Pelosi is demanding that Mitch McConnell, the Senate’s republican majority leader, and other Senate Republicans make concessions to Democrats about how President Trump’s trial should be handled, specifically the manner in which witnesses are called in for testimony.
Democrats are evidently desperate for some leverage in the Republican-controlled Senate, and they believe that they can circumvent the impeachment process by hiding under the false guise of “supporting and defending the U.S. Constitution.”
However, sooner or later this farce — like every other farce concocted by the Democratic Party — is going to blow up in their faces and be used by President Trump to further solidify his re-election in 2020.
